My name is Maureen, I hail from Chicago, and my friends and family think I’m a gypsy, mainly because in last the 8 years, I’ve moved from Fairbanks, Alaska, to Portland, Maine, to a small island in the Caribbean, then up to Fairbanks again, then to the Colorado Rockies, and now, this spring, I’m heading back to Alaska – only this time to Barrow, at the top of the world.
My partner works for the NSB in Barrow, and I’m along for the ride.
I’m a scuba diver, a playwright, a yogi, a fitness fanatic, a decent vegetarian cook, an art junkie, a hiker chic, a foodie, a theater groupie, a marathoner, a DJ, a marine ecology geek, and a zookeeper to 3 biggish dogs and a very large cat who does not know that he is not a dog, too.
I’m a writer and a teacher by trade, so it makes sense that I carve myself a spot on the blogosphere to document this latest journey and all that it entails in terms of healthy eating, growing and preparing my food in a place where the sun stays below the horizon for longer than I might be able to imagine, and living a life full of art, music, and delicious food.
Thanks for stopping by.
